Datacenter Operations Engineer/Manager

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

The Data Center Operations Manager is a 24x7x365 on-call position responsible for operating a revenue-generating datacenter environment.  This key individual will be managing support operations, troubleshooting infrastructure and technical issues, developing a comprehensive monitoring framework, as well as maintaining systems, inventory, and implementing technology upgrades.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and evolve a scalable and sustainable architecture for a high-volume real-time datacenter operation
  • Assess risk factors and limitations of the current system, and identify areas of opportunity for mitigating these risks and limitations, improving overall system efficiency and performance
  • Management of departmental priorities and delivery of Network and Data Center Operations projects.
  • Establishment and execution of strategy and vision for the Network and Data Center Operations department.
  • Maintenance and continual improvement of operational standards (performance)
  • Plan, direct, and manage the daily operations / activities in the Network and Data Center Operations team, including:
    • Scheduling and management of planned maintenance activities pertaining to Data Center, network, telecom, and backup hardware, systems, and services
    • Oversight and management of all Local Area Network, Wide Area Network, and Telephony voice and data network equipment
    • Management of the physical Data Centers including space, power and cooling usage, security, the installation of new hardware, hardware outages, and Data Center asset management
    • Monitoring of equipment and services to ensure continuity of service and maintain appropriate levels of availability
    • Maintaining records of equipment and service performance
    • Preparing monthly performance reports, including metrics related to Uptime, Change Management and Release Management

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or equivalent degree
  • Several years of experience with building and managing a revenue-generating datacenter.
  • Experience with setting up systems to manage networks, systems and applications for both performance and alerting
  • Strong working knowledge of CentOS/RedHat configuration and deployment
  • Experience as a hands-on management team member in an Information Technology organization
  • Experience with virtualization (e.g. VMWare ESX) is highly desirable
  • Experience with networking technology: Switch, Routers, VPN, SLB and Firewall
  • Experience with Internet advertisement technology and distributed computing environments is highly desirable
